Series 3 Race 1
The night began with light air, about 7 knots, from the West Southwest. An ebb current was running out hard. The breeze swung left all night.
We had a great start, dipped the line and turned up at about midway. We rolled Meanie and Mojo, but carried too far left. They were able to lay the mark as soon as they tacked. We were seriously overstood.
We rounded the weather mark last. Gybed before the chute was up (I couldn't go the wrong way for another second.) We had a clear lane and tons of favorable current. We rounded the leeward mark third just inside of Tom. The next beat was skewed. We took two tacks to stay inside of the boats behind us. Rounded the next weather mark in third. The second run was a tight reach. We extended on Poppy and Mayhem. I thought we had it in the bag.
The final beat was a fetch. Poppy worked off of us and into a lefty. He and Mayhem lifted as we headed. They both beat us to the finish. We were fifth. Not bad considering the light air and where we were at the first mark.
Rig tension.
u= base - 4 (~34)
l = base -3 (~28)
backstay course tune was about 50% tight.
Jib halyard was soft. There's a mark on the deck now.
The main halyard was just barely taught. We eased the strop three inches and the outhaul was loose.
We had good speed for the conditions.
